Agronomy Manager (Canola Breeding)

Our client is one of the most prominent seed and pesticide companies on the planet. Their canola varieties are world class. They require an Agronomy Manager to lead the team that manages their canola variety development and advancement field trials in Alberta.
As the new Agronomy Manager for their Canola Breeding Program, you and your team will plan and execute the field research program in Alberta. You will generate the data used for variety advancement and registration. During the growing season, you and your team will be responsible for: establishing lease agreements with producers/cooperators, coordinating testing locations, seedbed preparation, seeding of plots, maintaining the trials and sites, gathering in-season phenotypic data, harvesting the canola plots, processing the seed samples, and overseeing two clubroot research nurseries. You will work closely with the seed breeders and research scientists.
To be considered for this hands-on position, you must have strong prairie based agronomic expertise and at least 5 years of small plot research experience. Preference will be given to applicants who have planned, coordinated and executed small plot field research in the past. Please indicate if you have experience dealing with clubroot. You will supervise and mentor a motivated team of agronomists and summer students, so experience managing and developing people is required. A related bachelor’s degree is required.
