Our client, FP Genetics, is on track to reach their goal of becoming the number one cereal seed company in Canada. Over the last decade they have enjoyed growth on every applicable business benchmark. Their current CEO is retiring, leaving a strong company with great people, excellent products and an enviable market share. In the seed business variety is king. FP Genetics goes to great lengths to access great hybrid fall rye, wheat, durum, barley, pea and oat varieties.  Their current offering is grabbing market share and their pipeline is even better. FP Genetics is a relatively small company, with around twenty people, but they have a huge impact on the cereal seed business in Canada.

As the new CEO, reporting to the Chairman of the Board, you will run the company and continue growing the business.  The company has two high level mandates.  One is to provide the best possible genetics to the shareholder seed growers.  The other is to support the marketing and sale of FP Genetics branded seed to end use farmers.  Though the plan is simple, that doesn’t mean it’s easy.  There are lots of moving parts. Fortunately, you will have an exceptional team to work within every division of the company including seed genetics, sales, finance, marketing, plus a very knowledgeable board of directors.  This role is 70% strategic, and 30% hands on tactical.

To be considered you must be a relationship person. Success will depend upon your ability to work well with the seed breeder community, the shareholder seed growers and your team. A career in agriculture and proven track record of success in business management is required. As CEO of a small company you will be a generalist who leads the experts on the team. Preference will be given to candidates who possess experience with all aspects of business: strategic planning, HR, sales, marketing, finance, basic IT, regulatory, etc.
