Our client, FP Genetics, is one of the most well-respected and progressive seed companies in Canada. The company provides seed varieties plus sales support and marketing expertise to their 160 Seed Grower Shareholders. They have a prolific portfolio plus a terrific pipeline of new varieties. They are reinvesting in their core business, and they are positioned for growth. They require a true leader to become their new Director of Sales and Marketing.
As the new Director of Sales and Marketing your responsibilities will fall under three broad areas. First you will be a leader, coach, and mentor to your five-person team, (four sales and one marketing). They are an experienced, passionate, and capable team that already knows what tasks are required. Therefore, your role will be to keep them engaged and keep them heading in the right direction. You will develop and track the Sales Budget.
Your second responsibility is strategic marketing. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will contribute to the development of the strategic marketing plan and lead your team to execute. You will have a wide degree of autonomy to operate within the scope of the strategic marketing plan. You will develop the advertising budget.
Your third responsibility is loosely described as relationship management. That includes relationship building with your sales team, your Senior Management Team, the Seed Grower Shareholders, retailers, farmers, and other industry stakeholders. FP Genetics does not sell seed directly to the end use farmer. They provide varieties and support to the Seed Grower Shareholders and retailers who do. Therefore, you and your team are working hard to build relationships and trust with your Seed Grower Shareholders and retailers, rather just selling seed.
Our client embraces the belief that attitude is the most important hiring criteria. Therefore, we are looking for candidates with a proven track record of; collaboration, problem solving, relationship building, communication, consensus building, risk taking, staff development, passionate engagement, and having fun. In addition to this, strategic marketing experience in the Canadian agriculture sector is required. You must be able to demonstrate that you can develop and execute a strategic marketing plan. Beyond this, a relevant degree, seed sector knowledge and Ag retail experience is a definite asset, but not a deal breaker.
