Our client, FP Genetics, understands that variety is king. They go to great lengths to access great hybrid fall rye (HFR), wheat, durum, barley, pea and oat varieties. Their current offering is grabbing market share and their pipeline is even better. FP invests heavily in new varieties to ensure their shareholder seed growers have the best seed on the market. Their HFR program is expanding exponentially and they are on track to reach their goal of becoming the number one cereal seed company in Canada.
As the Manager of Seed Production and Logistics you will enhance their seed production processes and be accountable for getting the right seed inventory to the right retailers at the right time. You will have two main responsibilities. First is overseeing production, cleaning, testing, tracking and logistics for their incredibly successful Hybrid Fall Rye Program. You will manage the movement of hybrid rye from harvest into the hands of the retailers in a very tight 6 week window in the late summer/early fall. Your second responsibility is to manage and coordinate the multiplication of all other varieties from breeder seed through to certified seed. You will ensure certified seed is ready to sell in 3 years. This will include inventory management, logistics, record keeping, reporting and quality assurance. You will work closely with the shareholder seed growers who multiply the varieties, seed production partners who grow the hybrid fall rye certified seed, and the company sales force.
To be considered you must be a very organized and detail-oriented seed expert who appreciates the seasonal and weather-imposed challenges of the seed business. You must be great with people because success will depend upon your ability to coordinate action with seed production experts, seed labs, seed processors, truckers, seed breeders, seed retailers, and your team mates. You must have at least five years of seed industry experience (preferably more) and a related degree. Preference will be given to candidates who have a proven track record of planning, process improvement and creating procedures. Solid agronomic skills are also required as you will become the Rye Expert for the company. This business is growing! Therefore, experience supervising staff and developing a team will be an asset but not a deal breaker.
